Repairing Squeaky Stairs
I recently learned of a handy, time-saving way of repairing squeaky stairs! We have two flights of stairs in our house, and there are a few on each flight that crack loudly when stepping on them. There’s no sneaking downstairs at midnight for a snack if the stairs are going to wake everyone up! This solution works well in the situation where you have carpeted stairs and are unwilling or don’t have time to remove the carpeting or cannot access the underside of the stairs.
There are various squeak repair kits at the home improvement stores that have special screws that you use to go through the carpet and then snap off so that nothing protrudes up through the carpeting. Follow the instructions to ensure you locate the joist. Use the special tool provided with your drill to insert the special screw and then snap it off.
I love this idea because it is fast and easy. Imagine trying to remove the carpeting on the stairs and then trying to get it back the way it was. And don’t worry that your carpet will be damaged — the screws pass right through! Finally an end to the squeaky stairs. Maybe you will be heading to the home improvement store this weekend so you can start repairing squeaky stairs in your house!
